Equity
Students from equity target groups
Student Learning works closely with the Equity Office to provide the academic coordination of
OnTrack, an alternative entry program for
prospective students from equity target groups. Student Learning
also provides on-going group and individual support to these students once they are admitted to Murdoch.
Who are these students?
Equity target groups are listed below:
- People with disabilities;
- Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people;
- People from socio-economically disadvantaged backgrounds;
- People from rural and isolated areas;
- People from non-English speaking backgrounds;
- Women, particularly those in non-traditional areas and in research higher degrees.
Prospective Equity students
Murdoch offers a free, 12 week program, OnTrack, to enable
students who come from disadvantaged or disrupted educational backgrounds to complete a course which
improves their basic study and writing skills. Successful completion of OnTrack can result in an offer
to enrol in a degree course at Murdoch.
OnTrack students are coordinated jointly by the Equity Lecturer in Student Learning and
Tania Saetta, the OnTrack Support Officer. The Equity
Lecturer coordinates the academic content and teaching of the courses and Tania is responsible for
their administration, including enrolment of students. Students from these programs who are admitted
into Murdoch receive ongoing support from staff in Student Learning. An important component of these
programs is the consistent individual and group support in literacy and study skills provided by the
Equity Lecturer to students who enrol at Murdoch.
How to apply to OnTrack
Support to undergraduate Equity students
All staff in Student Learning are available to provide academic support to students from Equity target
groups, with the lecturer in Equity, having a special focus on this group.
In addition, many first year Equity students enrol in TLC120, Introduction to
University Learning if they need additional support with their learning.
