Credit Units

The Student Learning Centre co-ordinates two credit bearing units to assist the academic skills development of Murdoch students. Both these units are general electives. TLC120/TLC020/TLC1201: Introduction to University Learning is for first year students (Part I studies) and is worth 3 points, while TLC277: From University to Workplace is offered to students in the second and third year of their degree (Part II studies) and is worth 4 points.

TLC120 & TLC1201: Introduction to University Learning

'Introduction to University Learning' aims to build key academic skills for success at university and has two streams: TLC120/TLC020 for Humanities and Social Sciences students and TLC1201 for Physical Health and Life Sciences students. The unit balances practical and theoretical knowledge to develop students' communication skills, confidence and strategies for university learning.

The unit commences in week 3 and runs to week 14.

TLC120/TLC020/TLC1201 has a one-hour lecture and three hours of tutorials per week.

How to enrol in TLC120

Students can enrol online through 'MyInfo' in 'MyMurdoch': choose one three-hour tutorial group.

HECS Census dates

The HECS Census date is the last day you can withdraw from a unit and enrol in TLC120/TLC020/TLC1201 without incurring a HECS or tuition fee liability. It is also the last day you can withdraw from other units to enrol in TLC120/TLC020/TLC1201 without those units appearing on your academic record if you withdraw by the relevant HECS Census date. Students who withdraw from any units after this date (including TLC120 and TLC1201) will still incur a HECS or tuition fee liability for those units.

The Semester 2 HECS Census dates are

Semester Units Commencing Week 1:

Friday 29th August 2009.

TLC120/TLC1201 Commencing week 3:

Second semester, Friday September 12, 2009.

Substituting TLC120 or TLC1201 for another unit

If you are already enrolled in 12 points, to enrol in TLC120/TLC1201 you will need to withdraw from another elective unit.

TLC120/TLC1201 should take the place of an elective in your Program. However, if changing your enrolment to include TLC120 is likely to affect your program (eg prerequisites, completion times, etc), then go to your Faculty Office for advice.
