Deferred assessment
You may apply for deferred assessment in an ISC on the same basis as for formal units (refer
to the current Murdoch University Handbook).
This form of extension is appropriate when time is lost by illness or other exceptional personal
circumstances; applications must be accompanied by evidence such as a medical certificate clearly
indicating the period during which your studies were affected. However you should bear in mind,
that deferral cannot be approved unless your work was up to date at the time the grounds for
deferral arose.
Withdrawal
If you decide to withdraw from an ISC, the withdrawal deadlines and HECS liability rules are
applied in the same manner as for a formal unit (refer Murdoch University Handbook - http://handbook.murdoch.edu.au/).
These withdrawal dates are as follows:
- Withdrawal before the HECS census date: withdrawal not recorded
- Withdrawal after the HECS census date and before the end of Week 10 of the semester in
which the unit is to be completed: withdrawal recorded
- Withdrawals are not accepted after Week 10. Students who decide not to continue with
their enrolment in a unit after Week 10 will fail the unit.
The same deadlines of the HECs census date also apply to summer ISCs, starting with week 1 (the
week following the end of the 2nd semester assessment period), and including the Christmas/New
Year period in the calculation.
Assessment of an ISC
The completion date shown on your contract is the date by which you must complete your work
and submit any final written work to your supervisor. The supervisor then assesses your work
(seeking the advice of other experts if necessary) and forwards your result to the Board of Examiners
this must be done by the Monday following the semester's assessment period.
You will be notified of the result of your contract together with the results of your other
units; this normally takes place 2 to 3 weeks after the end of the assessment period. However,
in the case of summer contracts, notification of the result is provided by the end of March.
