Support for International Postgraduate Students

Extra assistance is provided by Student Learning staff for local and international Murdoch postgraduate students for whom English is a second language (ESL). Dr Julia Hobson, Lecturer in Learning Skills, provides workshops and seminars for Murdoch postgraduate students on thesis writing and the research process. Colin Beasley, Senior Lecturer in ESL, also provides some workshops and seminars for local and international students from non-English speaking backgrounds. Postgraduate ESL students are also encouraged to attend the general ESL workshops on Academic Writing, Grammar and Pronunciation and Speaking skills offered in the first half of each semester. Also students should attend the writing workshops that are run each semester. In addition, individual consultations are available by appointment directly with both Julia Hobson and Colin Beasley on thesis and research writing and postgraduate study.

Other Resources

There are many excellent resources for language and academic skills development for postgraduate students available in the Murdoch library, and especially in the Student Learning Resource Centre. Most materials are available for student and staff loan, and some language materials also include audio and videotapes.
