Postgraduate Students
The Student Learning section has a staff member dedicated to the support and assistance of postgraduate
students. Ring or email if you have quick questions, drop by and have a one-to-one consultation over
more complex questions and/or attend one of the discipline specific workshops run throughout the year.
Check out the writing workshops for honours and postgraduate students.
Also check out the Postgraduate Student Learning blog for
ideas/tips and useful conversations.
When you are not sure who or where in the University to find information the answer may be to call
Student Learning – when we don't know we try and find out for you.
Remember, it is very important that you start writing early and get regular feedback from supervisors
(and student learning staff, as necessary) in order to develop good research writing skills. The presentation
of seminar and conference papers and discussion with others working in the same field is vital, ensuring
awareness of standards and providing valuable feedback. The final stages of your research degree may
be too late to adequately rectify writing problems that should have been consistently addressed throughout
your candidature.
Be sure to make use of all the resources available to postgraduate students and attend the GREAT Program
for research postgraduate students.
An excellent resource is the website: PhD
– First thoughts to finished writing run by The University of Queensland.
