(FLIC) and the flexible unit model
The FLIC initiative involves
the move toward a new flexible unit model. The philosophy of FLIC is "that instead of thinking
of a unit as having various delivery versions we should think of a unit as a coherent package
of resources that can be accessed in various ways" (Thiele, 2002). In other words, a unit
is a single set of resources which can be accessed internally, externally or online, according
to student needs. There would no longer be different versions for different delivery modes. See
the FLIC template.
The conversion to the FLIC unit model entails:
- An online Unit Welcome Page and other online materials
- A Unit Guide stripped of generic study information
- A Unit Reader available in print form and/or electronically through
the Library
- Digital recordings of face-to-face teaching
- Modification to create one version and take advantage of online capabilities
The School Development Process supports the redevelopment of unit materials into one coherent
set, and provides opportunities afforded by simultaneously mapping the graduate attributes and
addressing curriculum alignment.
