Webinar Series: Educating the Net Generation
Fourteen Universities meeting online simultaneously.
This series of interactive webinars will explore the characteristics of the "Net
Generation" and how they learn; provide an opportunity for us to hear
perspectives from an international panel of students; and foster a discussion
on how to develop faculty to meet the challenge.
“The Net Generation has grown up with information technology. The aptitudes,
attitudes, expectations, and learning styles of Net Gen students reflect the
environment in which they were raised—one that is decidedly different
from that which existed when faculty and administrators were growing up”.
says the recent ebook published by EDUCAUSE called “Educating the Net
Generation”.

Academic Staff Development
Dr Jennifer Weir who recently joined the TLC as the Academic Staff Development
Coordinator has already made her mark in the Tertiary Teaching Course which
is currently running in both face-to-face and flexible mode. This is complemented
by the Teaching Skills Program aimed at tutors and laboratory demonstrators,
as well as a series of individual seminars under the banner of Academic Work
Matters, which is aimed at all staff.
The TLC website has been revised to highlight these new developments and includes
a section on forthcoming conferences about Teaching and Learning.
Guide for Unit Quality
The Guide
for Unit Quality provides Unit Coordinators with features and checklists
that illustrate good practice for quality unit development. It has been updated
recently in both print and online formats and the head of each school and
the library have been provided with hard copies.
The Guide provides examples of what other Unit Coordinators have done in both
print and online, so check them out and use them as models for your own materials.
