THE 9-POINT PLAN TO PROGRESS THE PROCESS OF RECONCILIATION

ADOPTED BY THE SENATE 8/10/2001


RESOLVED:
S/82/2001

(a)

that the University support the process of Reconciliation between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and the wider Australian community;

 

(b)

that to further this aim, the University will develop and implement educational, cultural and employment strategies in line with the following 9 - Point Plan:

  1. Publicly support the reconciliation process;

  2. Recognise and promote existing, successful programmes and practices within the University, which encourage reconciliation;

  3. Observe Indigenous protocols and include appropriate Indigenous ceremonies in official University events where possible;

  4. Establish and promote celebrations and symbols of reconciliation (such as Nyungar Day) within the University;

  5. Ensure that Indigenous culture and Indigenous history units are developed and promoted in the university;

  6. Ensure that so far as is practical, Indigenous perspectives are included in the teaching of all courses at the University;

  7. Work with Indigenous organisations to improve community awareness and appreciation of the history, arts and culture of Indigenous and Torres Strait Islander peoples and current issues;

  8. Develop initiatives for improved admission, retention and degree completion of indigenous students;

  9. Support initiatives designed to assist Indigenous and Torres Strait Islander peoples to find employment in the University.
