Functions of the Equal Opportunity and Social Justice Area
EOSJ reflects the institution's vision of social justice and the related values it embraces. It
strives to provide leadership for a comprehensive education and awareness program to the academic
community, using both formal and informal delivery methods to address the broad range of relevant
issues. It advocates throughout the institution and the state the vision and values for social justice.
The main functions of the EOSJ include:

To integrate equity and social justice principles into the main academic functions of the University.

To promote a better understanding of Social Justice issues of importance to our community by supporting
and encouraging academic staff to work with the Australian Academy of Race Relations to conduct
research into social justice issues.
- To provide students with a learning environment to develop appropriate range of graduate skills
to equip them for employment and participation in the multicultural community.
- Work with academic staff to integrate equal opportunity and social justice into course offerings
as appropriate.
- Promote diversity awareness activities to students and academic staff and encourage students'
participation.
- Take inventory of all Murdoch courses, research projects and community activities that cover aspects
of social justice.
- To promote a better understanding of Social Justice issues of importance to our community.
- Support and encourage academic staff to conduct research into social justice issues of importance
to our community.
- Extend existing research relationships, and foster new ones with external partners.
- To support staff in developing effective teaching and learning strategies.
- Provide Divisional support for inclusivity in teaching and learning initiatives.
- Provide up-to-date resources in social justice and diversity education programs for use by academic
staff.
