Recipients of 2003 Vice-Chancellor's Excellence in Supervision Awards

Murdoch University is committed to maintaining a productive research culture. This requires a pool of talented postgraduate research students that, in turn, necessitates quality research supervision.

The Vice-Chancellor's Excellence in Supervision Awards supports Murdoch's commitment to sustained excellence in postgraduate research supervision.

Two awards are made each year - one to staff in the Division of Health Sciences and Science & Engineering and one to staff in the Division of Arts and the Teaching & Learning Centre.

The winners of the Awards for 2003 are Dr Jenny de Reuck and Associate Professor Peter Drummond.


 

Dr Jenny de Reuck

Dr de Reuck has demonstrated her commitment to the supervisory process and an ability to reflect and adapt according to the needs of her students. She brings great warmth as well as an professional attitude to her supervisory practices. Dr de Reuck builds a community of scholars with her postgraduate students and guides her students both to completion of the doctorate and in the development of their academic careers. Her creative insight and intellectual rigour, combined with an ability to listen to her students and respond appropriately, allows Dr de Reuck to guide postgraduate students through the different stages of study and for them to flourish as independent researchers.


 

Associate Professor Peter Drummond

Over a number of years at Murdoch, Professor Drummond has shown himself to be an outstanding supervisor, assisting many people to successfully complete doctoral studies. He is commended for the passion, enthusiasm and dedication that he shows in his supervisory practices. Professor Drummond inspires his research postgraduate students through his integrity and dedication to the research process and clearly explains and develops their skills, is compassionate, always approachable and encourages his students to become independent and effective researchers.
