Winners of the 2008 Vice-Chancellor's Citations for Excellence in Enhancing Learning


Seven Murdoch University staff and teams have been selected to receive the Vice-Chancellor’s Citation for Excellence in Enhancing Learning in 2008. These citations are designed to recognise the many and varied contributions that combine to create effective learning environments at Murdoch. Recipients are awarded $1,000.

The recipients for 2008, with details of their citation, are:

Colin Beasley, Teaching and Learning Centre
For sustained commitment to enhancing the academic skills and adjustment of first year students through a special credit-bearing general elective unit.

Ken Chong, School of Veterinary and Biomedical Sciences
For specialist expertise and technical support in the teaching and training of undergraduate and postgraduate students in Biochemistry and Nutrition.

Dr Rick Cummings, Teaching and Learning Centre
For sustained leadership in strategic change in assessment and flexible learning to enhance student learning across the university.

Andrew Foreman, School of Chemical and Mathematical Sciences
For outstanding contribution and commitment to the laboratory teaching, support of undergraduate students, and assisting research students and staff.

Jean McKay and Helen Bronleigh, Library Services
For taking learning support to students wherever they are studying, through the development and implementation of a unique library chat reference service.

Dr Jane Pearce and Elizabeth Moore, School of Education
For improving access to Murdoch University’s regional campuses for students from disadvantaged backgrounds, by means of the UniFocus Bridging Programme.

Dr Cecily Scutt, Graduate Centre
For the creation of innovative and inspiring programs to facilitate postgraduate writing, including the seeding of interdisciplinary peer writing groups.

These successful applications have also been submitted to the Australian Learning and Teaching Council (formerly known as the Carrick Institute for Learning and Teaching in Higher Education) for consideration for the $10,000 national Citations for Outstanding Contributions to Student Learning.
