Nominal Group Technique
- Ask each person to list their views on a particular question, eg What aspects of the workshops most needs improvement?
- Collect responses from each person . List on whiteboard/flip chart. Take at least one response from each person before allowing a second choice. Cluster similar items.
- Each person is allowed six votes which they may distribute as they wish eg give all six votes to one item if they feel strongly about it, or four to one, two to another, etc.
Key issues are identified and ways of making improvements can be discussed in smaller groups (give each group a different issue) if time allows.
Remember that when using this technique, student views will not be anonymous unless you are able to use an independent facilitator.
