Course Experience Questionnaire (CEQ)
The CEQ is a national survey which is sent to graduates of coursework programs in Australian
universities approximately four months after the completion of their course. The survey is sent
with the Graduate Destination Survey (GDS) and is administered jointly by individual universities
and Graduate Careers Australia (GCA). Analysis of the CEQ is undertaken by Australian Council
for Education Research and a report is published annually by the GCA.
The CEQ asks about the attitudes of graduates towards their courses and the skills they acquired
whilst undertaking tertiary education. Graduates are asked to express their agreement or disagreement
on a five point scale to a number of statements. These statements are grouped into scales –
- Good Teaching Scale (GTS)
- Generic Skills Scale (GSS)
- Overall Satisfaction Item (GSI)
The above three scales form the core scales of the CEQ and are asked by all universities. Murdoch
University also asks three optional scales –
- Appropriate Assessment Scale (AAS)
- Graduate Qualities Scale (GQS)
- Learning Communities Scale (LCS)
What questions make up the scales?
CEQ results 2003-2006
For the purpose of analysis the five point scale is converted to one from -100 to +100 and means
scores are calculated. Mean scores are given by field of education.
