Test Here to see if you have Shockwave and Flash Plugins. If the plugins are not installed, you'll be given the opportunity to download them.
Shockwave Variants
Director
Director originated as an animation
package based on moving bitmap graphics along a timeline. Because bitmap graphics are used, download times are a barrier.

Flash
Flash emerged from a hybrid of
the Shockwave aspects of Director and the 'object' or 'vector'-based graphics program Macromedia Freehand. Because graphics are based on mathematical descriptions rather than dot-by-dot representations, Flash files take up significantly less space, and are quicker to download.

Authorware
- example from Biotechnology
Authorware originated as a flowchart-oriented Computer-based training program almost a decade ago. Because bitmap graphics are used, download times are a barrier.
