Quicktime VR Title

What is Quicktime VR and how does it work?

QTVR.GIF QuickTime Virtual Reality (QTVR) is a specific format for QuickTime movies. QTVR movies are loaded onto the client computer from the server, and are played back by standard system software.

There are two types of QTVR movies, panoramas and objects. Panoramas are where the camera is looking outward, and 'panning' through a 360 degree arc. Objects are where the camera is looking inward, and give the impression that the object being viewed is turning around, as if it is held in your hand.

A QTVR panorama movie is created as if one is standing inside a cylindrical photograph. The process is described in more detail in this 'mirror' of a site originally located at http://www.beehive.de/qtvr/qtvrproduction.html

A QTVR Object movie is created by standing the object on a turntable with a fixed camera location. One image of the object is taken at each of 36 10 degree increments, as the turntable is turned.

QTVR panaramas and Objects can be combined into Scenes by clickable hotspots. You can add hotspots to link to other URLs.
