Vice Chancellor's Forum 2005

Linking Teaching and Research

Murdoch University held an inaugural Vice Chancellor's Forum focusing on Linking Teaching and Research on Wednesday 23 November 2005.

Professor Alan Jenkins (Westminster Institute, Oxford Brookes University; and Associate Practitioner for the Higher Education Academy UK) was a keynote speaker. Other speakers included Murdoch staff members who shared practical examples of how their teaching and research are linked in the context of student learning. As Alan Jenkins (2004) points out, for some academics this link between teaching and research is self-evident. However, "the research evidence cautions us that the positive teaching/research links are not automatic" (Jenkins 2004:1).

The Forum and follow up workshops provided an opportunity to discuss practice and theory surrounding the so-called 'teaching-research nexus' at Murdoch University.
