Project Description

Human Biology

During the last three years, the participants have developed a number of small computer-aided learning (CAL) modules for a second semester unit of study, Human Biology, which is taken by 800 first year students. The CAL modules were developed to replace the use of animal cadavers. The development of one module was supported by a grant from the New Educational Aids in Medicine and Science (NEAMS) Trust which promotes and supports the development of new alternative methods to the use of animals in education.

There are currently five modules which are used in laboratory sessions in conjunction with paper-based instructional materials, and are available via the web for revision.

As they plan to develop more of these modules, the participants would like to know how effective this style of presentation is in student learning.
