Project Description

Computing

The unit Comp 132: Introduction to Computer Science II is offered in Semester 2, 2000 and is delivered online for both internal and external students. It is intended to evaluate this unit for the CUTSD Project, commencing in May 2000. Students undergo the process of learning their first programming language C++ and this is the main focus of the course.

Information hiding and code re-use are concepts approached via the topic of separate compilation. It is necessary that students understand that programming in industry is often performed by several people as part of a team effort. The members of that team rely on information hiding and code re-use to work together effectively.

As well as providing an environment where students can access course materials, contact their instructors and their peers, practise new skills and submit assignments for assessment, the goal is to establish an environment where students can work collaboratively on a teamwork assignment. Thus students will be able to communicate with team-mates via private bulletin boards, work together on programming tasks, and provide feedback for instructors. This environment, which is not dissimilar from environments used in industry, will be based on technology that is part of the future profession of students.

The unit requires that all students have access to online resources and that all assignments are submitted online.
